A licensed insurance agent in North Carolina is facing charges of fraud after being accused of manipulating an auto insurance policy’s dates to suggest that a friend had coverage at the time of a car accident.
The North Carolina Department of Insurance announced this week that Ryan Frye, a driver involved in an accident in June, was found to be driving without insurance coverage. The investigation revealed that Kaci Ferrell, a licensed agent residing in Hillsborough, purportedly engaged in fraudulent activity by retroactively altering the effective dates of an auto policy to indicate that Frye’s vehicle was insured during the time of the collision.
According to an official statement by Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, Ferrell promptly took Frye to the police station immediately after the accident occurred. Subsequently, she reportedly included Frye’s vehicle on her own insurance policy and submitted this updated policy information to law enforcement in an attempt to validate the vehicle’s coverage status.
Commissioner Causey emphasized that Frye and Ferrell are believed to be in a relationship.
Upon conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, department officials proceeded to arrest both Frye and Ferrell on August 7th. The pair is scheduled to appear in court on August 28th to address the charges brought against them.
Kaci Ferrell’s licensing information, as per the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ license lookup website, indicates that her license remains valid until 2024. She serves as a producer specializing in property/casualty insurance for Integon Insurance Company and Progressive.
