The Insurance Commission (IC) of the Philippines has called on the public to explore insurance and health maintenance organisation (HMO) products tailored to gender-specific health needs. These products should address issues such as maternal care, reproductive health services, critical illness coverage, and treatments unique to each gender.
In a press release issued on March 27, the IC urged insurers and HMOs to develop and offer plans that cater to these distinct requirements. The commission highlighted the importance of creating gender-sensitive initiatives that reflect the health and financial needs of individuals at various stages of life.
The advisory also stressed the importance of gathering and analyzing sex-disaggregated data. This would provide deeper insights into how insurance and HMO products can better serve both women and men across different life stages.
