Plans for Merger Set to Strengthen Domestic Market Presence and Compliance Efforts
MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings announced plans to merge its two major non-life insurance subsidiaries, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co., Ltd. The merger, scheduled for completion by April 2027, was approved during a Board of Directors meeting held on March 28.
The move is part of MS&AD’s strategy to bolster its domestic non-life insurance operations and align with the company’s broader goal of becoming a leading global player in the insurance and financial services industry.
In addition to strengthening its market position, the merger aims to enhance the company’s compliance framework, particularly in response to recent incidents involving price-fixing and information leakage. The consolidated entity could potentially secure the largest market share in Japan’s non-life insurance sector, reinforcing MS&AD’s competitive standing.
