Thailand’s Popularity Soars as a Top Travel Destination in 2025

by Celia

Thailand has secured its spot as one of the top 15 global travel destinations for 2025, driven in part by significantly lower insurance premiums compared to international standards. According to travel insurance comparison data from Squaremouth, insurance premiums in Thailand are 45% lower than the global average of $219.

The country’s appeal has surged by 12%, a trend reminiscent of Sicily’s tourism boost after being featured in HBO’s The White Lotus. The show’s second season led to a 32% increase in searches for the Italian island.

Squaremouth’s data highlights that not only are trips to Thailand more affordable, but they also tend to be longer than those to other popular destinations. The average stay in Thailand lasts 25 days, 66% longer than the typical international trip of 15 days. Additionally, the average cost of a Thailand trip is $3,275—41% below the global average of $5,617.

Ned Tadic, Squaremouth’s Manager of Public Relations, explained that this rise in popularity aligns with a broader trend toward longer and more adventurous travel experiences. As a result, travelers are increasingly seeking comprehensive insurance coverage, including for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and high-risk activities.

With extended trips becoming more common, demand for adventure and sports travel insurance is also on the rise. These plans offer coverage for activities such as scuba diving, surfing, motorcycle riding, and ziplining, providing travelers with peace of mind as they embark on more daring experiences.
