Markel Group has appointed Simon Wilson as the new Chief Executive Officer of its primary underwriting businesses, which include Markel Specialty, Markel International, and Markel Global Reinsurance, now collectively referred to as Markel Insurance.
Wilson, who is currently serving as President of Markel International, takes on this role as part of the company’s efforts to streamline operations and improve customer focus.
With over 20 years of experience in specialty insurance, Wilson has been instrumental in Markel’s international growth. Since joining the company in 2010, he has spearheaded the expansion of Markel’s operations in Europe, Canada, and Asia, growing annual gross written premiums to $2.5 billion.
As President of Markel International since 2021, Wilson led a nearly 40% increase in gross written premiums and a remarkable 250% rise in net underwriting profit, according to a company press release.
