Etiqa Life Insurance Appoints Leong Su Yern as New CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Etiqa Life Insurance Bhd (ELIB) has named Leong Su Yern as its new chief executive officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2025.

Leong succeeds Paul Low, who retired in December 2023. She will report directly to Kamaludin Ahmad, the group CEO of Etiqa Insurance and Takaful, who has been serving as the interim CEO of ELIB since Low’s departure.

Leong, who joined Etiqa in 2013, initially served as head of pricing for life and family products. In this role, she played a pivotal part in ensuring regulatory compliance and developing pricing strategies for both ELIB and Etiqa Family Takaful Bhd (EFTB).

In 2022, she transitioned to Maybank Ageas Holding Bhd as chief product officer before returning to ELIB in 2023 as general manager, overseeing sales channels.

With over 23 years of experience in the insurance sector, Leong is a dedicated Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA). Her extensive leadership background spans more than 18 years, during which she has been instrumental in driving strategic growth and operational efficiency.

Kamaludin Ahmad expressed confidence in Leong’s appointment, stating, “We are pleased to welcome Su Yern as CEO of ELIB. In this role, she will spearhead the company’s strategic, financial, and operational initiatives to maximize shareholder value, while ensuring customer satisfaction. Additionally, she will oversee sustainable growth strategies, regulatory compliance, and risk management.”
