A Chicago commuter train that collided with a snowplow last year had its operator test positive for alcohol, according to a report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The blood-alcohol level of the train’s operator was found to be 0.06%, above the federal limit of 0.02%, in a hospital test conducted about an hour after the incident. However, the NTSB stated that the alcohol did not cause the crash, and that the investigation is still ongoing. The operator told investigators that the train’s brakes didn’t work properly in the moments leading up to the crash. The crash injured 38 people, including the train’s operator.
