The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) is spearheading a series of initiatives to tackle pressing issues within the country’s insurance sector.
A primary focus is enhancing the speed and accuracy of insurance claim payments, particularly following recent natural disasters, including the heavy rainfall in July and Typhoon No. 10. In addition, the industry aims to rebuild public trust following a series of data breaches.
To prevent future incidents, the GIAJ is reinforcing compliance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. Companies implicated in previous breaches have submitted comprehensive reports detailing the causes and strategies for prevention.
Furthermore, the GIAJ is revising its business practices, which include tightening regulations on employee secondments from insurance firms to avoid conflicts of interest and improving the overall quality of insurance agents.
The association is also actively promoting earthquake insurance, particularly in disaster-prone regions, while enhancing digital services to boost customer convenience.
These initiatives reflect a commitment to improving compliance, transparency, and customer-focused operations within Japan’s general insurance industry.
