SINGAPORE, September 11, 2024 — Income Insurance has launched FlexiTravel Plus, Singapore’s first travel insurance that allows travelers to extend their coverage by the hour for trips to 19 Asian destinations.
FlexiTravel Plus is part of Income Insurance’s new suite of travel insurance products, which includes an industry-first post-departure purchase feature and an overseas telemedicine service. This new offering replaces the previous FlexiTravel Hourly Insurance, which only covered trips to Bintan, Batam, and Malaysia.
The pricing for FlexiTravel Plus starts at a minimum of SGD 1.80 for six hours of coverage. Travelers can extend their protection for an additional SGD 0.30 per hour, with a maximum daily charge of SGD 3.00. For example, a three-day, two-night trip to Thailand would cost no more than SGD 9.
The introduction of FlexiTravel Plus aligns with Income Insurance’s commitment to addressing protection gaps in Singapore, especially for short getaways within Asia.
FlexiTravel Plus covers various scenarios, including:
Trip disruptions and travel delays
Overbooked public transport
Insolvency of travel agencies
Loss of mobile phones and electronic devices due to theft
Overseas medical expenses and emergency medical evacuation
Coverage for sports equipment like golf clubs and surfboards
(available as an add-on)
Additionally, Income Insurance’s Enhanced PreX Annual Travel Insurance, which is the only annual travel plan in Singapore that covers pre-existing medical conditions, now offers a new benefit: 24/7 overseas telemedicine services through an emergency hotline.
Annie Chua, Vice President & Head of Key Accounts Management at Income Insurance, stated, “Travelers often forget to purchase travel insurance due to their busy lifestyles. Some may not see traditional travel protection as necessary for short trips. We aim to fill these gaps by providing tailored travel insurance options that meet modern travel needs, allowing travelers to protect themselves and enjoy peace of mind.”
Chua noted that the demand for travel insurance has increased, with the uptake of FlexiTravel Hourly Insurance tripling in 2024 compared to the previous year. This growth motivated the launch of FlexiTravel Plus, which offers affordable and flexible protection for short trips to 19 Asian destinations.
