In a significant development, over 5,000 tanker drivers across the nation have gained access to comprehensive health insurance coverage through Leadway Health Limited.
Leadway Health recently joined forces with the Petroleum Tankers Drivers (PTD) of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to introduce a robust and dependable comprehensive health insurance plan for its members. Launched officially in Lagos, this strategic partnership aligns with the visionary priorities set by the newly elected leaders of the Petroleum Tankers Drivers.
The unveiled comprehensive health insurance package ensures uninterrupted healthcare services for tanker drivers across a network of over 2,000 hospitals nationwide. Enrolled Petroleum Tanker Drivers will now have access to quality healthcare services, preventative care, emergency medical attention, ambulance services, and coverage for selected critical illnesses. This initiative aims to eliminate the financial burden associated with out-of-pocket medical expenses, fostering peace of mind and guaranteeing timely medical interventions.
Dr. Tokunbo Alli, CEO of Leadway Health Limited, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s objective, stating, “It is our mission as an organization to provide comprehensive health insurance coverage that prioritizes the health and wellbeing of every Nigerian, especially our tanker drivers, who diligently transport petroleum products across the nation.” He added that Leadway Health would conduct periodic outreaches to facilitate regular checkups and care for Petroleum Tanker Drivers at various locations.
During the launch, Comrade Williams Akporeha, the national president of NUPENG, emphasized the historic significance of the initiative for the betterment of union members. He highlighted the challenging conditions faced by tanker drivers, including difficult terrains, harsh weather, long hours on the roads, and security concerns. Akporeha stressed the importance of the Health Insurance Scheme, saying, “It is our moral obligation as a Union to provide them with the necessary support, care, and protection they deserve.”
Encouraging other organizations to follow suit, Akporeha expressed the hope that the success of this initiative would inspire similar schemes for members across various branches within the Union.
