HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Senate has unanimously approved legislation that would update the regulatory framework for travel insurance in the Commonwealth, according to the measure’s sponsor, Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York).
Travel insurance remains an important product that continues to meet consumer demand. However, travel insurance does not always fit neatly into insurance laws that are designed for larger industries.
The Phillips-Hill legislation will benefit consumers by codifying an efficient, fair, consistent and effective regulatory framework for travel insurance. The legislation provides a comprehensive codification of the legal requirements specific to travel insurance, including distinguishing between the insurance and non-insurance elements of travel protection plans to determine the appropriate scope and reach of the regulatory framework.
“With more people travelling in a post-pandemic world, it is important to modernise and update our laws to make it easier for consumers and insurers to navigate the travel insurance landscape,” said Phillips-Hill.
Passage of this legislation would add Pennsylvania to the list of 32 other states that have already enacted the enhanced travel insurance framework.
The legislation now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
