The General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) has announced that claims for victims of the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights will be fast-tracked to provide immediate financial support.
PIAM Chairman Ng Kok Kheng confirmed that individuals with motor, personal accident, retail fire, homeowners, or householders insurance policies are eligible for expedited claims to ease their recovery.
“We understand the severe emotional and financial impact this tragic event has had on affected families and businesses,” Ng said in a statement. “Our goal is to make the claims process as seamless as possible, ensuring that policyholders receive the necessary assistance quickly.”
Ng also noted that the association expects a high volume of claims as affected property and vehicle owners return to the area. “We are fully prepared to assist them throughout the process,” he added.
Victims are encouraged to contact their insurers as soon as possible, even if they have not yet returned to their homes. Claims can be filed directly through insurers, agents, brokers, or online platforms such as the Digital Roadside Assistance app.
The fire, which erupted at Jalan Putra Harmoni near two residential areas on the morning of April 1, burned for nearly eight hours before being fully extinguished at 3:45 p.m. It spread to nearby homes, forcing the evacuation of 74 families.
According to the latest reports from the police, 87 premises were completely destroyed, while another 148 sustained significant damage. The fire also affected 399 vehicles, with 225 vehicles burned and 174 others damaged.
