The 2024 Employer Health Benefits Survey, marking its 26th annual edition, provides critical insights into trends in employer-sponsored health coverage. This year’s survey, which involved 2,142 interviews with non-federal public and private firms, delves into various aspects of health benefits, including premiums, employee contributions, cost-sharing provisions, offer rates, and wellness programs.
Notably, the survey expands its scope to include detailed inquiries about provider networks, abortion coverage, family-building benefits, coverage for GLP-1 agonists, and programs aimed at supporting lower-wage workers.
The findings reveal a significant increase in costs, with annual premiums for employer-sponsored family health coverage reaching $25,572, a rise of 7% compared to the previous year. On average, employees contributed $6,296 toward family coverage expenses. Additionally, among workers with plans that include a general annual deductible, the average deductible for single coverage stands at $1,787.
