The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended a former department head from an undisclosed insurance company on charges of bribery. The arrest, conducted in Kuala Lumpur, centers around accusations of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to approximately RM500,000.
The individual, identified as a woman in her 30s, was taken into custody after providing a statement to the MACC. The allegations suggest that the bribes were sought in exchange for her recommendation in awarding contracts to three different companies. These companies were engaged in delivering training and consultancy services to the insurance firm where she previously held employment.
The suspect was brought before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed granted a seven-day remand order, effective until January 16. This remand is intended to facilitate further investigation into the matter.
Fauzi Husin, the MACC director in Kuala Lumpur, confirmed the arrest and specified that the case is being pursued under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009. This section addresses offenses related to the solicitation and acceptance of bribes by individuals in positions of authority or influence.
