Telangana CM announces ₹5 lakh accident insurance policy for gig workers, taxi drivers and auto drivers

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has revealed plans for the state government to offer ₹5 lakh accident insurance to gig workers engaged in activities such as food delivery, cab driving, and autorickshaws. In an official release on Saturday, the Chief Minister also committed to providing ₹10 lakh health coverage under the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme for gig workers.

Addressing a gathering of cab and autorickshaw drivers, as well as food delivery executives, the Chief Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to extending social security to workers in the unorganized sectors. He assured that policy decisions in this regard would be made to ensure the well-being of gig workers.

Revanth Reddy pledged to examine the existing policy for gig workers in Rajasthan, with the intention of incorporating effective measures into Telangana’s legislation during the upcoming state budget session, as per the release.

In a gesture of support, the Chief Minister announced ₹2 lakh in financial assistance for the family of a food delivery executive who tragically lost his life four months ago after falling from a building.

Encouraging proactive participation, Reddy urged cab and autorickshaw drivers, as well as food delivery executives, to submit their applications either online or in person at the Grama Sabhas, scheduled to be organized from December 28 to January 6, as outlined in the release.
