Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health is set to launch the Health Insurance for Non-Thai People (Hint) scheme on 1 January 2024. This new initiative aims to provide healthcare coverage to stateless and non-Thai people in the country.
The Hint system promises a more efficient registration process, reducing the time required to just five minutes, a significant improvement on the weeks it took under the previous system. A key feature of the new system is its inclusiveness, allowing non-Thai individuals without identification documents to register for medical treatment and coverage.
According to a Vietnam Plus report, the Hint system is integrated with the ministry’s financial data hub. This integration is expected to streamline the process for hospitals to receive reimbursements for medical fees incurred by non-Thai patients.
Hospitals can expect to receive reimbursements within 24 hours, with a guarantee that funds will be transferred within 15 days. This system is an important step towards improving access to healthcare for non-Thai residents and stateless persons in Thailand.
